Writing, Doctor Who, and Christmas

As Lex said, NaPoWriMo starts for us today. Yay! This involves writing 30 poems in 30 days. The official NaPo month is April, but hey, why not break the rules from time to time? June is also NaNoWriMo - novel writing, as opposed to poetry - which involves 50,000 words in a month. I'm doing that as well. Fun. Links to what I write will go on the Facebook page.

Anyway.

That there.

Matt Smith to Leave. At Christmas.

Christmas.

I love Christmas. I don't do religion, but Christmas for me is sitting in front of the TV, wrapping paper covering the floor, and eating more sprouts than is healthy. I like sprouts.

We all know that the Doctor must die and regenerate. We all know that it is the same Doctor, but each incarnation has his own personality. I loved 11, more than I loved 10. I liked 9, and  he was not as grumpy as fans remember him to be, he did laugh!

We will all cry when 11 dies. We will all be sitting on our sofas, surrounded by things we really need to send back to the shops once they open [or give as gifts to people you forgot...] and crying our collective heart out as we watch 11 die.

So why is this a squee, Ellana...?
Crying at Christmas is not good.

You are right.... but are you? 11 dying means only one thing: 12.

OK two things. We will mourn 11, but we will fall in love with 12, just as we did with 10 and 11. We will miss the fangirl moments, the squeeing in Skype calls when he does something cute. We will miss his bowtie.

But we will love 12.

Yes We Will Keep You Awake Mum!!

I am going to let you in on a little secret. Those pictures you see of owners in bed cuddling their dogs while being

A - Comfy
B - Asleep

They are lies!! All lies!! I have probably had about an hours sleep last night due to anticipation (tonnes on my mind) and the fact that my babies (Five dogs and one determined cat) decided that comforting Mum was the best thing they could do. This meant that they were all snuggled on top of me, now taking the collective weight of all my dogs we are talking about *counts* almost and possibly just over 60kg of dog 132lbs for those who do that and for those of you who work in stones, my brain has died so you can work that one out on your own. It was a good snuggle-a-thon. It was good.

I have only found out in the last five minutes that my thirty poems in thirty days marathon stars on Saturday. Thanks Ellana, I didn't have much to worry about but you have helped with that ;) This will mean me laying in bed trying to think of words while being licked to death probably by Dude, one of my dogs. I will post pics of them and you can meet them all. Also I have a challenge of building a fence, oh that'll be fun! I wonder if there is a book, fence building for dummies? Who knows. Righty I had better toddle off. I have five dogs needing wee wees and then I get to go to work, hurrah!

HUH? - Doctor Who is racist

When we came across this post the whole team at epicsquee froze, read and promptly collapsed into fits of uncontrollable laughter.

Doctor Who is Racist!

I know, we couldn't believe it either. But over the last 50 years the show has been accused of racism on many levels.
It's such a shame that they never considered diversity in the show. Maybe they should have reconsidered the casting of Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones, or possibly chosen a different Mickey Smith? Oh Wait...

A collection of essays criticises the cult show for 'outdated attitudes' and for the casting of white actors in ethic roles. They also go on to say that the writers "did nothing to increase the understanding of the Holocaust" during last years episode featuring Adolf Hitler.

Lindy Orthia, an Australian academic who compiled the anthology has called the show "thunderingly racist."

I am sure she underestimated her chances of getting lynched by the few of the show.

The BBC is defending the claims, calling them "ridiculous".

Which leaves one opinion? What do you think?

Welcome to The Epic Squee

Hello!! This is The Epic Squee.

So who are we?

Well..................

We are the Squee-ers. We squee about most things. We would like to share some of those things with you. Whenever something amazing happens in our lives - a high grade on a university paper, or a new craft kit arrives through our letterbox - we will post about it. We will post pictures of cats [naturally!] and updates from our favourite TV shows [expect a lot about Doctor Who and Sherlock and Torchwood and Supernatural.... oh hell, just expect a lot!]. We post about everything and anything.

We hope you enjoy this little squee world of ours, and you can squee along with us.

The idea came about when the lovely Tracy joined a poetry site, got a great review on one of her poems [more about writing later!] and wanted to squee about it.

The world needs more squees. We at TES want to provide you with more epic squees in your life. Please share with your friends, and you never know... we might be squeeing about you!

EDIT: We have our first post!!!! SQUEE!
